Are Forums a Thing of the Past?

March 25, 2013 | In: Entertainment, Technology

Forums are great places to learn and exchange ideas. Some internet forums have been around since 1985. But forums are only good if there are enough members to have discussions with. Lately, it has come to our attention that forums aren’t as wildly popular anymore as they used to be. As a youth marketing company in Dubai we wanted to get to the bottom of this. We have spent the past few weeks asking questions about forums. Now we’re sharing the answers with you.

- People nowadays use social networks to talk about everything and hang out together. More advanced sites are used for database knowledge; therefore there is no real need for forums anymore.

- Spammers have taken over too many forums leaving rude comments.

- Some forums require that you register before use which can be a turn-off for many users.

- Many users just want to take but they never give.

- The classic design of the forums is boring and needs a new fresh design.

- You don’t need to ask questions into forums anymore. There are plenty of Q&A sites on the internet.

- Forums are very time consuming. You have to browse, then read, then think, then respond; it’s just too much for today’s busy and fast moving society. People want answers and they want them now with just a few clicks possible. If too much reading is required, they just move on to the next site.  It’s something a forum has a hard time delivering.

- It’s difficult to get members for forums.  It’s hard to come up with a good start point that leads to advancement and prosperity.

- The forums are an open discussion board for people, but nowadays the social networking sites where people can build their own network as well as get and share their related information have taken over.

- Every forum seems to have the same people; the person who cusses all the time, the user with ten question marks (Why use one if you can use twenty, right????), the OMG- LOL guy, the expert who knows everything, and the guy who types like he is drunk.

-Too many Facebook addicts, blogosphere queens, and Twitter fanatics out there. Things come and go, and right now Facebook and Twitter rule.
